Customer Review: Great Amazon service, but disappointing product

I have a larger Haier dehumidifier purchased from Amazon that does a wonderful job keeping the basement dry in the summer, but it seemed like overkill for a medium sized bathroom so I purchased this smaller unit instead to deal with too much humidity causing condensation on the inside of the bathroom window in the winter.
The first unit arrived with something rattling around in the power supply, and since just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean that a loose electrical piece couldn't cause a fire, I returned it for a replacement. Amazon sent a new one promptly and I've been using it for 4 days now. Unfortunately, although this one appears to be in good condition, it isn't doing the job. Instead of the 600 ml per day that the product description promises, I have a grand total of 100 ml at the end of 4 full days. I wouldn't mind if it were solving the window condensation problem, but there has been no improvement there either. It wasn't too noisy, but I can confirm another reviewer's complaint that there was a hideous smell that I was hoping would fade after a little while but so far is still no better.
I am giving up and returning the unit to Amazon, and am only rating this dehumidifier two stars rather than one to give Amazon credit for its policy of taking care of their customers on the rare occasions when their products fail to deliver.
By the way, I'm not sure where other reviewers got the impression that the WindChaser was made in America. Mine is clearly marked Made in China, on both the power supply and the main unit.
